As your Perinatal Behavioral Health Coach, I am specially trained to help support people experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs).
PMADs can arise in the birthing person or partner anytime during pregnancy or the first year postpartum. While depression and anxiety are the most common, affecting 1 in 5 new mothers and 1 in 10 fathers, PMADs can also feel like guilt or shame, irritability and anger. Some people also have difficulty bonding with their baby, sleep or appetite disturbances, racing thoughts, feelings of panic, intrusive thoughts or possible thoughts of self harm.
PMADs are higher for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities and those experiencing more life stressors. In my experience supporting perinatal people, having open dialogue to discuss PMADs can make them less daunting and provide space to work through them. In our confidential sessions, clients are met with understanding and guidance to support their resiliency.
